Hidetaka Suehiro (末弘 秀孝 Suehiro Hidetaka), known as SWERY or Swery65, is one of the founding members of the Osaka-based game developer Access Games and worked at the company as a game director, game designer and scenario writer before leaving it.
After completing his degree in film and video advertising at Osaka University of Arts, he joined the game industry. Swery worked at various game companies until he founded Access Games in January 2002. His directorial debut Spy Fiction focused on a western audience, rather than aiming at the Japanese audience as the primary target, a tactic he continued with Deadly Premonition in 2010. That game made its way to the Guinness World Record as "the most controversial survival horror game",[1] and in 2011 Swery was listed as one of the fifty most influential game creators in the Western industry.
In 2014 he partnered with Microsoft to develop an Xbox One game titled D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die, which utilizes the Kinect motion-sensing device. The game was highlighted at GDC Next 2013 as one of their "GDC Next 10",[2] where chosen developers give talks on the inspiration behind their upcoming games.
In 2015, he gave a lecture in Osaka and at GDC 2015 regarding physical input in video games and the Kinect device. He also opened a booth along with Access Games at Penny Arcade Expo East 2015.
In November 2015 he announced that he would be taking a health-related break from game development in order to focus on recovering from reactive hypoglycemia. [3]
On 31st October 2016, he announced that he quits Access Games, mostly to pursue a writing career.
