Sai Kung Friends Football Club (Chinese: 西貢朋友足球會) is a Hong Kong football club playing in the Hong Kong Third Division "A" League, by lending the league membership to Gospel FC. They were formerly known as Derico Friends (Chinese: 德高朋友). The team had played in the Hong Kong First Division League for several seasons.
History
In 1997–98, they receive third in Hong Kong Second Division League, but due to first and second HKFC and Jung Fuk gave up on promotion to First Division. Sai Kung Friends were promoted to Hong Kong First Division League for the first time.
In 1998–99, Sai Kung Friends appeared in Hong Kong First Division League for the first time. Although having the Brazilian striker, Tomy Adriano Giacomeli on the team, their overall strength was rather weak. Of the 8 teams in the First Division, they ranked 7th, but lucky due to the first and second in Second Division, HKFC and Fire Services both given up on promotion, Sai Kung Friends were saved from relegation. In 1999–2000, the striker Tomy Adriano Giacomeli transferred to Happy Valley, Sai Kung Friends' strength continued to decline.[1] Finally, after earning seventh place for two seasons, Sai Kung Friends announcement retirement from football rather than accept a demotion back to lower divisions.
In 2004–05, Sai Kung Friends rejoined Hong Kong Third A Division League under Derico Friends. They received first place in Hong Kong Third Division League and promoted to Hong Kong Second Division League once again. But in 2005–06, they received last place in Hong Kong Third Division League and was demoted back to Hong Kong Third A Division League after only one season.[2]
