Salkia

Salkia is a posh neighbourhood in Howrah, West Bengal, India. It is on the bank of Hooghly River, under Howrah Municipal Corporation. It is between Mali Panchghara and Ghusuri.[1] It comes under Howrah North Assembly constituency.Salkia comes under the Kolkata Metropolian Area.It is one of the commercial centres of Kolkata.It has existed since at least the 19th century.[2] Tikia Para and Pilkhana are among the other neighbourhood in Howrah. Haragunge Bazaar is a century old market, located at heart of North Howrah, at Aurobindo Road, Salkia. It is under renovation. A new mall is there on top of existing market. The mall has major brands and several restaurants and a three screen multiplex, and premium office space. Aurobindo Road and Dobson Road are commercial streets in Salkia. Jelia Para Lane is the posh residential area in Howrah.Both these areas are dotted with restaurants and Air conditioned markets. Salkia has two ferry ghats on the banks of Hooghly namely Golabari Ghat and Bandhaghat Ghat with regular ferry services at 10 min interval. The nearest metro station serving the neighborhood is Howrah Maidan and Howrah. Howrah station comes under Salkia. It is served by Golabari Police Station under Howrah Police Commissioner.

The State Highway 6 (West Bengal)/ Grand Trunk Road passes through Salkia.[3]
