Career highlights

Sam Docherty (born 17 October 1993) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was recruited from the Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup with the 12th selection in the 2011 AFL Draft.

He struggled with injury when he first arrived at Brisbane and spent all of the 2012 playing for the Brisbane reserves side in the North East Australian Football League (NEAFL).[1] He made his AFL debut in round 4 of the 2013 AFL season against North Melbourne, becoming the 150th player to play for the Brisbane Lions.[2] Docherty was traded to the Carlton Football Club during the 2013 trade period.[3] Brisbane received pick 33 in exchange for Docherty.

After a strong year in 2016, Docherty was rewarded with the John Nicholls Medal as Carlton's best and fairest player,[4] he was also named in the 40-man squad for the All-Australian team.[5]
