Sammy Mwaita
Sammy Silas Komen Mwaita (born 1965) is a Kenyan politician. He is a member of the United Republican Party (URP)and is a second-term MP in the National Assembly of Kenya.
Early life and education
He was born and raised in Kabarnet Division in Baringo County. He attended Kabarnet Boys' High School for both O-level and A-level.He is an alumnus of University of Nairobi where he obtained a Bsc. in Agriculture in 1985.
Professional career
Mwaita was a long-serving civil servant, rising from a junior officer to the position of Commissioner of Lands (2000-2003). As the Commissioner of lands, he was instrumental in the degazettment of in Mau forest land to pave way for the issuance of title deeds to Ogiek squatters.[1]
Political career
Mwaita is the incumbent MP for Baringo Central since December 2007. He was first elected in the Kenyan parliamentary election, 2007 in December 2007, winning the seat for Baringo Central Constituency and defeating the incumbent Gideon Moi (the son of former President Daniel arap Moi). He ran on an ODM ticket and managed to garner 26,603 votes compared to Gideon Moi's 7,527.[2] He was re-elected in the March 4, 2013 general elections on a URP ticket. However, the ODM Hosea Kiplagat challenged the results in the High Court. Upon hearing, the presiding judge, Justice Lydia Achode ruled that the elections met the credibility test and ordered that Kiplagat pays costs of the case not exceeding Sh 2 million.
Personal life
He is married to Dina Sote Mwaita and they have four children, namely Kenneth Kipruto, Valentine Kipchumba, Dennis Kiprono and Barnies Jebiwot.
