Sandbach High School is an all girls academy school in Sandbach, Cheshire.

Ofsted Report

The school has been judged as Outstanding by Ofsted for the third consecutive time. Ofsted noted "Students and staff are proud to be part of this outstanding school. Having built on the successes highlighted at the time of the previous inspection, the school has gone from strength to strength, as shown in the excellent outcomes for its students."

Location

It is located on Middlewich Road, Sandbach, a historic 15th century market town in Cheshire, set amongst 10 acres of green grounds.

Facilities

The school has excellent facilities- with a 200-seat theatre, a swimming pool, and an all weather sports pitch included. The school also has ten science laboratories, computer suites, two dance studios and a photography darkroom.

Extra Curricular

The school has a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Art, drama, debating, chamber choir, swimming, hockey, handball, sculpting, engineering, creative writing, Latin and yoga are just some of the clubs on offer.

Drama

The school has a lower school dramatics society and an upper school dramatics society. The drama societies produce three showcases per year, and have performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and at the National Theatre Schools Showcase in past years.

Music

The music department has a Lower School Orchestra and an Upper School Orchestra. It also has brass, strings, rock, concert and swing bands. Also, there's the school choir and the chamber choir- both of which have sung in venues such as Manchester Cathedral, the Royal Albert Hall, Bridgewater Hall and Wells Cathedral. The music department tours annually to destinations across the world, and have toured to Italy, China, Spain, France, Greece, the USA, Portugal and South Africa.

Dance

The school's dance department has an active dance society. There are several dance societies, including ballet, contemporary, modern, jazz and Irish, and there's also a "Dance Troupe" who together explore a variety of dance styles.

Technology

The Technology department has activities such as SHSSFC Electric Car Club, where the students design and manufacture cars that they race at tracks across the UK. The team has won the GreenPower Schools Championship three times. There's also Engineering, Product Design and Textiles clubs.

CCF

The school also sends some students to Sandbach School, which has an active Combined Cadet Force - this has three sections: The Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force. Students may enter the CCF from aged 11 upwards, and are able to attend camps across the country and head off on expeditions to places such as the Scottish highlands, the Isle of Man, Snowdonia and the Peak District.

Performing Arts

Drama

The school's drama department has two yearly productions. These productions have included both musical theatre productions, including Les Misérables, Oliver and Grease- and plays, such as Midsummer Nights Dream, Othello and One Man Two Guvnors. Whilst the productions are headed by the drama department's staff- the girls themselves produce, design the sets and set the musical scores. The girls school occasionally collaborates with the boys school- Sandbach School. The students also go on theatre trips, with the Shakespeare themed trips to Stratford-upon-Avon being popular.

Dance

The girls have two dance lessons, in which they study many different styles of dance, such as ballet, contemporary, street, jazz and modern, and the girls lead their own lessons, on occasions, and choreograph their own routines. The dance department have two showcases each year.

Music

Girls have one music lesson each week, in which they study musical theory, musical notation and musical composition. 40% of girls receive musical instrument tuition. The music department holds five yearly concerts: the autumn half concert; the Christmas concert; the spring half concert; the Easter concert and the summer concert.

Sports

The schools is a specialist sports school. Hockey, swimming, athletics, trampolining, football, gymnastics, basketball, tennis, badminton, squash, netball and lacrosse are all sports that are included in the P.E curriculum. The school has teams in all sports, with some teams going on to represent the school at regional, and even national, levels.

Learning

The schools code of conduct is based on respect, courtesy and consideration. The staff makes sure that learners work hard and achieve all target grades. There is a pupil reception area, on-site career adviser and access the specialist counselling services and health professionals for all pupils. The school promises to listen to all views of learners; members of the school council play an important role in representing the pupil voice and contribute to the school's decision making. Pupils have achieved great academic success at all levels.

An Information Evening is held for pupils and parents during the autumn term for before pupils join year 7. This gives them an opportunity to look around the school and meet the staff. Later, they are invited to spend a day in the school during the summer term before joining the school in September. The school maintains close links to local primary schools including Wheelock, Offley and Elworth for fun activities, and a senior member of staff comes into the school during the summer term to give girls an introduction to the school.
