Savli

Savli is a village near Vadodara, Gujarat in Western India.

Rajeshri welding works is the most famous workshop in sandasal about 17 km away from savli.

One of the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation centres is very near to it, including companies such as Nirma Chemical, Bombardier Transportation and Thermax.

The branch of Santram temple is also located in this village near the MahiSagar River. The population in Savli comprises Bania (Vaishnava), Patel, Brahmin and Rajputs, Muslims also are part of the village. The main crop of this village is tobacco.

Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation

The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) was established under the Gujarat Industrial Development Act of 1962, with a goal of accelerating industrialization in the state of Gujarat, India. One main role of the GIDC is to identify locations suitable for industrial development and create industrial estates with infrastructure such as roads, drainage, electricity, water supply, street lights, and ready-to-occupy factory sheds. The infrastructure of certain estates has been built for specific industries, and engineering estates throughout Gujarat. Some GIDC estates also have low-cost housing for workers and executives of tenant businesses, and many of the larger estates include amenities and commercial facilities such as banks, shopping complexes, schools, dispensaries, telecommunications centers, police stations, and community halls.

Industrial development

Savli is poised to become a major hub of multi national companies (MNCs) in engineering and electricals. While biggies like Bombardier and ABB have announced expansion plans in the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) estate in Savli, others like FAG Bearings and Voith Siemens have evinced interest in investing in the region. In all, Savli is expected to witness investments worth Rs 10,000 crore in the coming years.

Its 800 hectares huge industrial estate. Moreover, looking at the investments lined up in the region, the GIDC has also planned expansion of the area from 800 hectares to 1,000 hectares. “The amount of investments expected has forced us to expand the estate size from 800 hectares to 1,000 hectares," said Jayesh Rao, divisional manager, central Gujarat for GIDC.

The region has gained prominence since it falls on the Savli-Halol route of the Delhi Mumbai Investment Corridor (DMIC). Also, Savli has also been recognised as a location for Export Promotion Industrial Park (EPIP) which is proposed to be elevated to Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Even as the country gears up for metro rail projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Canadian rail equipment manufacturing company Bombardier Transportation recently expanded its railway vehicle manufacturing facility in Savli at an investment of Rs 200 crore. Spread across an area of 165,000 sq metres, the facility will produce railway vehicle including stainless steel carbody and bogie, apart from conducting final assembly activities. With a manufacturing capacity of 24 metro rail cars per month, the plant will be the only supplier to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

Similarly, energy player Thermax Limited is investing around Rs 1,000 crore in Savli to add substantially to its manufacturing capacity. German players Voith Siemens and R+B Filter GmbH will be investing around Rs 150 crore and 50 crore respectively for hydroelectric.[1]

A Movia-car manufacturing and Electrical component manufacturing Plant is located in Savli, Vadodara. It was opened in 2009,which brought Savli on the World map. The plant manufactures coaches for Delhi Metro. The plant houses various manufacturing units along with a 2.5 km of testing metro track. Around 500 people are employed with the plant. The plant is also currently manufacturing coaches for the New Generation Rollingstock trains for Brisbane in South East Queensland.

Educational Institutions

Savli is also becoming an educational hub with an educational campus including the K. J. Institute of Engineering and Technology. In addition to this college there are arts & commerce colleges and a homeopathic medical college.
