Jen Chia-Hsüan (born 1981), more commonly credited as Selina, is a member of the Taiwanese girl group S.H.E. She was born in Taipei, Taiwan, with ancestry in Dachuan, Sichuan, China.[2] On June 11, 2004, she graduated from the National Taiwan Normal University[3] with a Bachelor of Education degree, majoring in Civic Education and Leadership.[4] In September 2006, Selina released her first book, Selina Loves Beading (愛的小珠珠), which taught readers how to use beads to make designs. On October 22, 2010, Selina was injured in an explosive accident while filming the series “I have a date with Spring” (我和春天有个约会) along with co-star Yu Haoming. Selina suffered third degree burns over 54% of her body and needed to undergo skin grafting treatment/operation where her hands, legs and back were injured.[5] Her sister is actress and solo singer Lorene Ren.

Career

Main article: S.H.E

On August 8, 2000, HIM International Music held a 'Universal 2000 Talent and Beauty Girl Contest' in search for new artists to be signed under their label. Her younger sister (Lorene Ren) really wanted to join but she was too young. Instead, Selina joined the contest in her place. The contest had about 1000 contestants and after many tiring rounds of competing, seven contestants were left for the 'Cruel Stage' round. The three members of S.H.E were formed from here.

Following the competition, the record company gave all seven contestants an audition. Selina Jen was the actual winner of this contest. She caught the judges' attention in the first round by singing Coco Lee's 'Before I Fall In Love' and entered the final round with no trouble with 'The Closest Stranger'. Selina Jen also sang "Reflection" by Christina Aguilera. Due to her nervousness during the final round, Selina was called out twice, and when she was announced the winner, she was doubtful because there were other contestants who had not been called out. However, all three future members of S.H.E were signed together under HIM International Music.

The name Selina was chosen by her company after taking a personality test; it represents “gentleness”. The name "Selina" initially had two possible spellings: Selina and Selena. Jen Chia-Hsüan eventually chose "Selina" simply because she would be able to dot the i.[6]

In January 2015, Selina released her first solo album <3.1415>.

Collaborations

Selina's voice earned her duets with Tank, a soloist on HIM's roster (獨唱情歌 "Solo Love Song"), as well as Leehom Wang (你是我心内的一首歌 "You Are The Song Inside My Heart"). The collaboration with Lee-Hom was so successful that a rumour emerged claiming that Selina was seducing Lee-Hom. A crying Selina held a press conference to clear up the misunderstanding, as well as the rumour that Selina received a car from Huang Zi Jiao.

Personal life

On 29 May 2010, during a concert at the Taipei Arena, Selina admitted to the media that lawyer Richard Chang (张承中) was her boyfriend. It was announced that the couple will marry in April 2011. However their marriage was postponed because of Selina's schedule and her accident in October. The couple finally married on 31 October 2011. Chang announced his intention to run for a seat in the Legislative Council in September 2015.[7] In 2016, Richard announced that they have mutually agreed to divorce.[8]

On 22 October 2010, Selina suffered third degree burns on 54% of her body, mostly her back and legs, during an indoor film shooting in Shanghai for musical movie I have a date with Spring (我和春天有个约会). Selina left the hospital January 19 and held a press conference, stating she is okay and will be returning to S.H.E.

In her childhood, Selina hated dogs; however, after being introduced to Hebe Tian and Ella Chen of SHE, who both kept dogs, she started keeping her own dog as well. Her dog’s name, Pinky, reflects her colour preference for pink. Selina is 163 cm tall and she weighs 45 kg.

Selina married Richard Chang on 31 October 2011.[9] On 4 March 2016, through a post on her Facebook page, Selina announced that she and Chang were planning a divorce.[10] The divorce was finalized on 27 April.[9]
