Семковская Юлия Александровна (Semkovskaia iuliia Aleksandrovna) is a Russian Painter and Sculptor,[1] born in Брянская область during the Soviet Union who, besides Russian, has Polish, Ukrainian and Belarusian roots.

Semkovskaia is mainly focused on modern and expressionist art, her art uses abstract images and shapes to express her thoughts.[2]

As a polyglot who speaks 7 languages (Russian, English, Ukrainian, German, Belarusian, French and Spanish) her brain works in a different way than the brain of usual monolingual individuals.[3]

She Graduated from Moscow Lomonosov State University, after she studied in Novozybkoskaia Khudozhestvennaia Shkola, GLS Sprachschule (Berlin, Germany) and Moscow State Open University.

Semkovskaia has collected experience and inspiration from the different countries she lived in, like Russia, Germany, France, India, and now Colombia.[2]

Biography

Having family in several countries and with so many of them involved in art, got юля immersed in her passion: the cultures, languages and art of the world.

This is why at a very early age she learned to speak Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian and to use the different art techniques applied by her family in these regions.[4]

The art had a very important role in her life, since it was the best way she found to express her experiences besides her bizarre and eccentric dreams which follows her till nowadays.

While attending the primary school she started to learn English and German. Motivated and inspired by the culture and art surrounding these languages she decided, after finishing high school, to study languages, cultures and art.[2]

Her passion for expressing her knowledge through art (while studying in Новозыбковская Художественная школа, Novozybkoskaia Khudozhestvennaia Shkola) made her the winner of important art contests in Город Новозыбков (Novozybkov) and Брянская область where she got the attention of the press and media and her first pieces of art started to be sold.[1]

Thanks to her accomplishments she got a scholarship in Moscow Lomonosov state University (one of the top 5 in Europe and one of the best in the world[5]) to continue her studies on those matters.

She decided that as part of her educational process she would have to live in Germany and in France. While studying in GLS Sprashzentrum (Germany), she learnt new artistic techniques and was inspired by the work of some of the biggest artists in the world's history.[2]

She learned as much as she could about French and German art, culture, and languages.

She went back to Moscow to continue her studies but her thirst for inspiration could not be stopped so this time she chose India as a fountain of inspiration and knowledge.

After her experience with the European culture, to face a big contrast with the Indian Culture is what she needed to improve and explore her art inspiration and skills.[1]

Inspired by the Taj Mahal and the Buddhist priests that gave her a spiritual redemption she was able to create the Сильные духом one of her biggest accomplishes.

After India, Semkovskaia went back to Moscow to receive her degree and got ready for her next life experience.

Once fulfilled these achievements, she decided to take a very big step forward and go to the other side of the world, to a place with a totally new language and culture, to a big adventure – to South America, from where she received an offer from the Project 40x40[6] by the Mayoralty of Bogota.[4]

This huge project focused on art, languages and cultures for low resources kids of public schools was the perfect opportunity to explore a new world.

Living in Colombia has inspired Iuliia for good. The dancing, the food, the kindness of the people, the music, the way they see life and how happy they always are no matter the situations, are just a couple of the things that have impressed the artist, and took her to create new art.

Her art in the present is focused on expressing her life experiences and dreams; this is why her pieces of art have a big contrast between happiness, joy, fear and agony.

She uses the different techniques learnt during her life experiences to achieve the real representation of the thoughts, but among all, the drops against gravity will usually be part of her expression since they are always on her dreams.

In Semkovskaia's works, she combines the different cultures she has met in her own skin, and takes them to the level where she feels relieved to take it out of her chest.

Several of her art pieces has been spread around the world and important personalities from Europe, Asia, Africa and South America can enjoy the pleasure to own one.[7]
