Shakhtar Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium that is located in the Shcherbakov Central Park, in Donetsk, Ukraine. It is currently used mostly for football matches. Shakhtar Stadium was the prime home ground for Shakhtar Donetsk until the early 2000s.
The stadium has a capacity of 31,718. Shakhtar Stadium is currently used by FC Shakhtar Donetsk reserves and FC Metalurh Donetsk for the European competition. The stadium was built in 1936 with the most recent reconstruction in 2000. The football club eventually moved to the adjacent Donbass Arena.
The stadium is known as assassination place of notorious criminal Akhat Bragin on 15 October 1995. After that event, it didn't function as stadium for several years, local radio market being established there instead.
