Congressman Sherwin Tugna

Sherwin Tugna is a Congressman who represents the Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) Party-list in the 15th Congress of the House of Representatives of the Republic of the Philippines.[1] This is his first term in Congress having won in the 2010 National Elections. He is one of the current Assistant Majority Leaders of the 15th Congress.[2]

Early life

Born Sherwin Najito Tugna to parents Mila N. Tugna and Sergio T. Tugna on October 15, 1977, Sherwin Tugna is the eldest of two children, being the older brother to Dr. Sheryl N. Tugna.

Education

Tugna was educated in the Dominican-run University of Santo Tomas from grade school up to college. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Commerce in 1998 from UST. He was a member of the UST Varsity Football Team and competed in the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP). After college, he worked for some time in a private firm before enrolling in the Juris Doctor Program of the Ateneo Law School where he graduated in 2006. He was accepted in the bar in 2007.[3]

[3] He is currently the chairman of the legal affairs committee of the Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) Party-list.

Tugna was elected into office in 2010 and took his oath of office on August. He is currently one of the Assistant Majority Floor Leaders and is a member of the following Congressional Committees:[2]

Impeachment Participation

Tugna used his expertise of the law as one of the lead prosecutors during the historic impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona from January 16 to May 29, 2012.[4] His participation is in conjunction with CIBAC party’s advocacy of good governance and accountability.[5]

Personal life

On May 11, 2002, Tugna tied the knot with Eleanor Villanueva, a high school batchmate in the University of Santo Tomas. The couple is blessed with two children, Doreen Tugna and Joaquin Tugna.
