Southern New Hampshire Medical Center (SNHMC) is a 188-bed regional medical facility that serves an estimated 100,000 patients a year in the southern New Hampshire region. SNHMC has one of the largest physician networks in southern New Hampshire, with over 500 primary and specialty care providers. Nestled in the heart of downtown Nashua, SNHMC is located on two campuses and continues its 120-year tradition of providing expert medical care, innovative health programs and preventative health resources to the community.

SNHMC offers a full suite of health services, including a trauma center, newborn intensive care unit and distinguished programs in endoscopy, orthopedic surgery, gastroenterology, cardiology and neurosurgery.

Clinical affiliation with Massachusetts General Hospital

As a clinical affiliate of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), SNHMC offers tertiary level expertise in areas of cancer care, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, thoracic surgery and pediatric specialties. SNHMC's care teams can utilize the medical advances, best practices, research, and new treatments from MGH, Harvard University's first and largest teaching hospital, recognized as the #1 hospital in the nation.

Magnet designation

In 2006, SNHMC was designated as a Magnet hospital in recognition of nursing excellence. Only 386 hospitals worldwide have earned this prestigious status. SNHMC has been recognized by the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP®) as one of 52 participating hospitals that have achieved meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care.

Foundation Medical Partners

SNHMC is a partner of Foundation Medical Partners (FMP), an independent group of nearly 300 providers in primary, specialty and immediate care, serving thousands of patients in more than 70 practices across southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts. These practices include 5 Immediate Care locations, New Hampshire's first provider of same-day, walk-in urgent care.

Southern New Hampshire Health

Together, SNHMC and FMP comprise Southern New Hamophire Health (SNHH). SNHH is a founding member of Granite Health, a partnership of five health systems, uniting a network of primary care providers and specialists in over 150 practice sites in a model to share data driven population health management programs and other resources to reduce healthcare costs.

History

The facility was founded in 1893 as Nashua Memorial Hospital, an eight-bed emergency hospital. For 62 years, the hospital ran the Nashua Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, one of the only sources of professional training in the area for nurses. In 1979, Nashua Memorial Hospital opened the Surgical Short Stay Unit for same-day surgeries, and the hospital continued to expand and improve over the following decades. A $12 million construction project broke ground in July 2004 to expand emergency and cardiology services.
