St. Francis Xavier School, Kolkata, India, is a school running classes from Class I - Class XII. The school is located in Salt Lake City, India and is situated opposite the Hyatt Regency Kolkata and the Salt Lake Stadium. For admissions in the pre-school and 2+ to 5+ of age groups, students get admitted to its another school, St. Francis International School.
St. Franics Xavier School is co-educational with English as a medium of instruction. The normal entry point is in the Play Group at the age of 2+. Pupils are prepared to take the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and later, the Indian School Certificate (ISC) Examinations. Located in the heart of the city, the modern infrastructure aids in establishing an ideal ambience, for intellectual, spiritual and physical growth.
The school is affiliated to the Council for Indian School Certificate Examninations. ICSE and ISC examinations are held at the Class X and Class XII levels.
History
The year was 1982. Education at the foundation level was by and large, scattered and disorganized. Kids schools were in the hands of housewives wanting to reduce their boredom and earn some pocket money in the bargain. The observer was Mrs. Sheela Chopra, a housewife herself, time on her hands with a merchant navy officer husband. She recognized the agony of the parents looking for appropriate education of the young ones, who had the capacity to pay and, at the same time, wanted administrative convenience. A loge – term plan germinated in Mrs. Sheela Chopra’s mind, with a dream to establish a model and progressive school, meeting the aspirations of the society, particularly the residents of Salt Lake.
A concrete, through of small beginning was made but the growth was made but growth was rapid. Some time later even the four hired premises were not enough. Due to the efforts of our founder we are now housed in a self-owned premises in Phoolbagan.
Founder Principal
Mrs. Sheela Chopra, M.A. B.Ed., has a two and a half decade experience in school administration. She has been the driving force behind the success of this school and built this institution from 33 students to over a 1100 students.
Her achievements have been recognised through various awards conferred on her at the National Level.
Academics
The School prepares its students to appear in the Indian School Certificate Examination (ICSE) at the Class X level and Indian School Certificate (ISC) examination in the class XII level. Accordingly, the syllabus prescribed by the council for classes VIII- XII is taught. For Classes I – VIII, adequate syllabus is prescribed and taught so as to equip the students to effectively deal with the board exams in the future. Innovative teaching aids like charts, out of class trips are frequently taken up.
