St. Petersburg International Legal Forum
St. Petersburg International Legal Forum is an annual international legal conference that was established in 2011 on the initiative of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation and is supported by the President of the Russian Federation. The forum became the largest platform for discussions between politicians, lawyers, economists, and academics representing all major economic and legal systems.
SPILF 2011
The first St. Petersburg International Legal Forum was hosted at the Mikhailovsky Castle (also known as the Engineer's Castle) on May 19–21, 2011 in St. Petersburg. The forum was attended by more than 700 participants from 35 countries including 15 ministers of justice. Secretary-General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland, the Minister of Justice of Vietnam Ha Hung Cuong, Minister of Justice of Slovenia Aleš Zalar, Judge of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales Sir Robin Jacob (retired), European Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström, Secretary-General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law Hans van Loon, and President of the International Bar Association Akira Kawamura were among speakers. The plenary session "Law as an Instrument of Innovative and Secure Development of the Global World" was also attended by the President of Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, former Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schröder and Minister of Justice of Russian Federation Alexander Konovalov.[1][2][3][4]

SPILF 2012
Due to the partnership agreement between The State Hermitage and the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation the 2nd St. Petersburg International Legal Forum was held on 16–19 May 2012 in the east wing of the General Staff Building on the Palace Square. The forum was attended by more than 2,000 delegates from 51 countries. Delegations of 13 countries were headed by the ministers of justice, including those of the USA, the UK, The People’s Republic of China, Iceland, Poland, Morocco, Hungary, CIS member states, etc.
The forum hosted the plenary session "Legal Policy in the 21st Century: New Legal Challenges in the Global World", 38 roundtable discussions on various legal issues, several satellite events, including a conference "Modernization of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation" and a meeting "Mechanisms of Realization of Open Government Initiative in a Legal System" as well as the diversified social programme. In addition to that, the 2nd St. Petersburg International Legal Forum was the venue for the signing of a number of international agreements aiming to promote Russia’s cooperation in the legal sphere with such countries as Poland, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Iceland, etc.

SPILF 2013
The 3rd St. Petersburg International Legal Forum was held on 15–18 May 2013. The plenary session "Competition and cooperation of the legal systems: the role of law in the development of state, economy and society" was held in the Mikhailovsky Manege which is the oldest exhibition centre of St. Petersburg. The business programme included discussion sessions and satellite events designed to help participants to establish business contacts, hold talks, and share experience with colleagues. Roundtable discussions were held in the eastern wing of the General Staff Building belonging to The State Hermitage. The discussions focused on a broad range of issues in the spheres of law, business, politics, and culture. The forum’s business programme was organized into tracks based on principal legal specializations. In keeping with tradition, a unique social programme was organized for guests, designed to make their stay in one of the most beautiful cities in the world unforgettable.
SPBILF 2014
The IV St. Petersburg International Legal Forum took place on June 18–21, 2014. The business programme of the IV St. Petersburg International Legal Forum featured more than 50 discussion sessions on a broad range of issues in law and business and the Plenary Session “The Concept of Rule of Law in Legal Systems: Key Takeaways and Future Prospects” on June 20. In 2014 two award ceremonies were held as part of the Forum satellite programme, namely Award ceremony of the IX annual competition “Best Legal Departments of Russia – 2014” organized by the Legal Insight Magazine, and St. Petersburg International Legal Forum Award Ceremony which convened for the first time ever. The unique cultural programme included the Mariinsky theatre’s festive Gala Performance and the exclusive evening tour to the Hermitage Museum. The culmination of the cultural programme 2014 was the Scarlet Sails show, the world famous massive event celebrating the end of school year. The venues of the IV St. Petersburg International Legal Forum were the new stage of the Mariinsky theatre and the Eastern Wing of the General Staff Building, owned by the State Hermitage Museum, the large-scale reconstruction of which has been carried by one of the leading Russian architects, Nikita Yaveyn, in 2008-2014.

In 2015 St. Petersburg International Legal Forum took place on 27–30 May. The topics of the anniversary St. Petersburg International Legal Forum continued the discussions of the previous year while also considering the particularities of the current situation. On 18–21 May 2016 Saint-Petersburg will become the legal capital of the world. The Forum annually brings together heads of the leading legal firms, chief legal officers from major companies, judges, representatives of state regulators, international organizations and legal schools from over 80 countries.
