Stalic Khankishiev

Stalik Hankishiev (2012)

Stanislav Huseynovich Khankishiev, better known as Stalic Khankishiev (Russian: Сталик Ханкишиев; born 2 February 1962), is a celebrity chef, photographer, and cooking writer born in Uzbekistan.[1] He has become well known in the Russian Federation as a result of television appearances and books. He is particularly associated with Central Asian cuisine, but has also popularized dishes from the Caucasus, the Balkans, and Slavic countries.

Books

Khankishiev was born in Fergana in the Uzbek SSR to an Azerbaijani[2][3] father and a German[2][3] mother. For many years he worked as a businessman in Uzbekistan, cooking only as a hobby. He has no formal culinary training and has never worked professionally as a chef. He came to prominence by means of a publicity stunt at the Moscow International Book Fair, where visitors were treated to pilaf à Khankishiev, prepared on the street and given away free.

His first book, Kazan Mangal, was enthusiastically received.

This is not merely a "blog in book form". It is not merely a collection of recipes from Uzbek cuisine, nor a guide to Central Asian cuisine, nor even a general survey of eastern cookery. Rather, it is an invitation to see the world through the eyes of an enthusiastic, generous, and talented individual immersed in ancient and beautiful cultures, wrapped in the diverse fragrances of various countries and the rich traditions of various peoples. This cuisine is bright, spicy, fun, sophisticated, and at the same time simple. This is Stalik and his "philosophy of life".

Khankishiev's marketing acumen was also on display at the release of his second book, which took the form of a gala dinner to which film and theater stars, diplomats, businessmen, and journalists were invited. Also in Moscow, Khankishiev held "master classes in eastern cuisine".

The success of Khankishiev's books has been attributed to their high production values, stylish design, and a marketing strategy which has positioned them as a prestigious gift item. Moreover, they have won praise for their depth, including not only recipes but cultural and philosophical digressions, as well as a large number of photos.

The reader increasingly expects a cookbook to present a "lifestyle". And is willing to pay - for good reason: this is not just a collection of recipes and culinary anecdotes, but is equipped with philosophical anecdotes and quality photography.

Television and radio appearances

Khankishiev's first TV work was on the program Dinner Party on REN TV. He has become known for hosting brief cooking segments on various TV channels. On the channel "Amusement Park" he hosted a segment titled Not a Girl Thing (Неженское дело), featuring "masculine" recipes with an emphasis on meat and outdoor cooking. He has also appeared on Telecafe,[4] NTV, and was a featured guest on the radio program Echo of Moscow.[5]
