State University of Performing and Visual Arts (SUPVA), Rohtak is a 2014 university by the Government of Haryana in Rohtak, India.[2] It is a joint campus of four institutions: State Institute of Film and Television , State Institute of Design,[3] State Institute of Fine Arts and State Institute of Urban Planning and Architecture.

The Government of Haryana is committed to the development and welfare of its people. It is continuously finding new avenues which can act as a catalyst for overall development of the State. It was felt that in the country, in general, and in North India in particular, institutions imparting education in the field of performing and visual arts especially those having an integrated approach were not there. Therefore, the State Government decided to established an integrated campus of four world class Institutes offering education in the field of Design, Fine Arts, Urban Planning & Architecture and Film & Television for young and aspiring students. This campus is a unique experiment in the entire country which offers degree level academic programmes in these fields. Now with an objective of functional, financial and academic autonomy, these Institutes have been brought under the aegis of State University of Performing & Visual Arts through Act No. 30 of Hrayana State Legislature.

In the first Phase, undergraduate programmes are being offered and post graduate and research programmes shall be offered in subsequent phases. The vision is to establish this University as a Center of Excellence in the field of Design, Fine Arts, Urban Planning & Architecture and Art of Film Making & Television. The University will act as a catalystfor the development of art and design industry, architecture, boost experimental and regional cinema, act as a mentor to neighbouring institutes and undertake faculty and management development programmes for the academia and the corporate sector. The integrated campus of the University at Rohtak has the unique inter disciplinary approach towards the field of visual and performing arts where young professionals are prepared to be a part of the ever growing demands of these fields.

The four Institutes on the campus have been modelled on the lines of respective apex institute of national importance in the respective fields. Each of the four Institutes has been provided with separate institute building and common central facilities including Auditorium, Art Gallery, Knowledge Center and a Cafeteria. The Institute has been set up on a sprawling campus of 22 acre. The campus has been designed by internationally renowned Architect. Mr. Raj Rewal and the iconic red sandstone building has been constructed by M/s RITES (a Government of India Enterprises) the total cost of the project is Rs. 300 crore. On August 14, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Haryana inaugurated State University of Performing and Visual Arts . With the inauguration of this premier University, a new era in the field of education has ushered in the State.

The State University of Performing and Visual Arts, Rohtak is a unique world level University in the country, in general and in North India in particular imparting education in the field of performing and visual arts especially those having an integrated approach.

Ar. Ashwani Sabharwal[4] has been appointed as first Vice Chancellor of the University . A unique inter disciplinary approach is maintained here towards the field of visual and performing arts where young professionals are prepared to be part of the ever growing demands of these fields. The hardworking team under the able leadership of Mr. Sabarwal has that zeal to take the university to new heights with the vision is to develop young minds to become achievers in their respective fields.
