Strategic Actions for a Just Economy
Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (SAJE) is a nonprofit economic justice organization. It was founded by Gilda Haas in 1996.[1][2][3] Their current director is Paulina Gonzalez.[4] SAJE focuses on organizing existing community members in poor neighborhoods to make sure that they are not displaced by urban revitalization projects.[5]
Their projects have included:
- Securing affordable housing and renovations to buildings owned by a slum lord in South Los Angeles[6]
- Working with Washington Mutual bank to create a pilot program to reduce high check cashing fees for welfare recipients.[7]
- co-organization of the Annual South Los Angeles Health and Human Rights Conference to address community health issues.[8]
