The Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Gallery (Malay: Galeri Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah) is a gallery in Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia. The gallery is about the Kedah Sultan Abdul Halim ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah.

History

The gallery building was originally constructed in November 1922.[1][2] It was then used as a high court building until June 2005 when it was relocated to the Court Complex at Suka Menanti Street. The building was converted into the gallery in 2007 with a cost of MYR16 million.[3][4][5]

Architecture

The building was originally designed by architect F. W. Wade and constructed by H. W. Fofden with ancient Roman architecture. During the conversion process to make it as the gallery, the architect was Rusman and the construction contractors were Seri Temin Development Corporation (M) Bhd. for building exterior works, Azam Hias (KL) Sdn. Bhd. for building interior works and Syarikat Mariwasa Kraftangan Sdn. Bhd. for gallery artifacts works.[3]

Exhibitions

The gallery displays photos, collections, equipment, tool, official documents, jewellery etc from the Sultan from more than 2,000 artifacts.[2]

Opening time

The gallery opens from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. for a cost of MYR5.[4]

Transportation

The gallery is accessible within walking distance north of Alor Setar railway station.
