Sunkara Balaparameswara Rao

Sunkara Balaparameswara Rao is an Indian neurosurgeon in Andhra Pradesh, India. He is called the "father of neurosurgery in Andhra Pradesh"[1][2] and has been awarded the Dr. B. C. Roy Award for organizing and developing neurosurgery in Andhra Pradesh.[3] In 2008, he was conferred a honorary degree of Doctor of Science by the Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences.[2] In 2015, he was awarded Lifetime Achievement award by the Telangana government.[4] Rao has been a member of British Medical Association, Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and New York Academy of Sciences. From 1978 to 1983, he also served as a member of W.H.O's Expert Advisory Panel on Smoking and Health.[2]

Rao was born to father Kanakam and mother Seshamma who were freedom fighters. His brother Sunkara Venkata Adinarayana Rao is a orthopedic surgeon.[5]
