María Susana Giménez Aubert (Spanish pronunciation: [suˈsana xiˈmenes]; born January 29, 1944 in Buenos Aires, Argentina), commonly known as Susana or Su, is an Argentine TV host,[2] actress, model and businesswoman. She is considered the biggest celebrity in Argentine television.[3][4]
Biography
She is the host of Susana Giménez, a highly rated television variety show in Argentina, similar in format to those of Raffaella Carrà (in Italy and Spain) and Oprah Winfrey[5] (in United States). Giménez entered into the Guinness Book of Records because all the letters and phone calls she received in her show. In 1997 she was awarded with the Golden Martín Fierro Award. In 2002 won the INTE award for best Hispanic American TV hostess.
Her TV show was the only one that received important international stars of Hollywood and Europe.
Most of her filming career was in adult-oriented comedies, acting opposite Alberto Olmedo, Jorge Porcel, and fellow vedette Moria Casán.
Giménez has acted in over 30 films, including the cult film La Mary,[6] and 10 plays. In 2008, Giménez launched her own magazine called Susana,[7] published by La Nación.[8] She is featured in the cover of every issue. She had her own fashion doll,[9] and has endorsed two fragances.[10]
Private and Family life
Susana is the daughter of María Luisa Sanders, and Augusto "Johnny" Giménez Aubert. She had a hard childhood, tinted by her parents' separation. She studied in Quilmes, and graduated from La Anunciata Collegiate as a primary teacher, a profession she never practised. In 1962 (at 17 yrs. old) she married businessman Mario Sarabayrouse. A year later she gave birth to her only daughter, Mercedes Sarrabayrouse. She has two grandchildren, Lucía and Manuel.
In 1998 had to pay $10 million to her then-husband Huberto Roviralta as a divorce settlement.
Before becoming famous, for a couple of years Susana worked as an executive secretary for a large factory, but realizing that she needed a more exciting career at 19 years old, she decided to follow the steps of the fashion world and became a model. In a short time she became well known for her TV commercial for Cadum, a brand of French soap, and that was the beginning of her stardom. In private her family and friends call her "Su", and as such her fans started to call her "Su" Giménez!
