This event marked the third year in a row the ABC provided the official coverage. The network's broadcast was panned by viewers, described as "pathetic" and "cringe-worthy", and the worst coverage of the former years the ABC has held the broadcast rights.[1][2] Ratings were comparable with the previous year for the midnight fireworks, however the 9pm family fireworks were down around 18 percent.[3]

Features

The 9PM fireworks featured new flora and fauna effects as tribute to 200th year of Sydney Royal Botanical Garden and 100 years of Taronga Zoo.[4] It featured the multi-coloured waterfall from the bridge.[5]
