The Syracuse and Baldwinsville Railroad was established in 1886 and opened for business in 1887. The line ran a distance of 6 miles (9.7 km) from Baldwinsville to Amboy.[1]
In 1886, Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad (DL&WRR) bought the road and it was renamed to Syracuse and Baldwinsville Railway in 1891. DL&WRR formally abandoned the line in 1897.[2]
History
The Syracuse and Baldwinsville Railroad Company was chartered on June 2, 1886, and opened on January 1, 1887. The line ran a distance of 6 miles (9.7 km) from Baldwinsville, New York, to Amboy, New York, where it connected with the West Shore Railroad.[1]
The funded debt consisted of 50-year $500 bonds, dated July 1, 1886.[1]
Operations
By the end of 1888, the rolling stock consisted of three locomotive engines and one passenger car. That same year, the company reported they carried 7,540 passengers and total mileage traveled was 14,868 miles (23,928 km).[1]
Company management
By December 1888, directors were John T. Skinner, Jacob Amos, James Frazee, all of Baldwinsville, New York and R. W. Webb of Madison, New Jersey, D. M. Henderson, W. C. Andrews, R. A. Dorman, W. R. Lambertson, F. C. Hollins, E. C. Gregory, R. T. McCabe, T. C. Delavan, all of New York City and P. K. Green of Jersey City, New Jersey.[1]
Frank C. Hollins was president and F. F. Bentley was the receiver and general manager. He was from Baldwinsville, New York where the company was headquartered. John T. Skinner was vice-president and D. M. Henderson was secretary and treasurer. P. F. Bentley of Baldwinsville was general manager.[1] .[1]
Delaware, Lackawanna and Western railroad
The line experienced financial difficulties and fell under the control of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad (DL&WRR). It was renamed to Syracuse and Baldwinsville Railway in 1891.[2]
DL&WRR formally abandoned the line in 1897.[2]
