T.I.N.T. (an acronym for This Is Not The Album) is a mixtape by Ghanaian neo soul singer Efya, released by One Nation Entertainment on November 11, 2013. Upon its release, it was available for free digital download. The mixtape features a guest appearance from Black Magic; it was supported by the singles "Getaway" and "Best In Me". In addition to consisting of songs that were released between 2011 and 2013, the mixtape also consists of songs that didn't make the final track listing for the upcoming album Love Janesis.[1][4][5][6] On January 1, 2014, the mixtape was made available for purchase on iTunes.[7]

Composition

T.I.N.T. embodies elements of neo soul, jazz, and R&B. "A Moments Notice" is a song with a soul inspired theme. On "This Life", a Latin inspired song, Efya explores her vocal range. On "Little Things", the singer talks about silly things that people do when they become complacent with their significant other. On "Nothing", Efya mixes her native dialect (Twi) with Yoruba. "Falou" is a cover of Duncan Mighty's single "Obianuju".[8] On "Weather 4 Two", Efya sings about the feeling people get from making love to their significant other. In an interview posted on Modern Ghana, she described the song as a slow sensual cuddle song.[9] "Body" is a cover of Chris Brown's "Don't Judge Me". She uses the song to address the media's impingement into her life. "Commot", featuring Black Magic, is a blend of soul and jazz.[8]

Singles

On November 10, 2011, Efya released the mixtape's lead single "Getaway". The music video for the single was shot and directed in and around Accra by Sony Addo.[10][11] On February 14, 2012, she released the mixtape's second single "Best In Me".[3] The music video for the single, uploaded onto YouTube on September 20, 2013, was directed by OJ of Big OJ Films. Sarkodie played the role of Efya's love interest in the video.[12][13]

Critical reception

The mixtape received generally positive reviews from music critics. Tayo Ayomide of Nigerian Entertainment Today gave the mixtape 4 out of 5 stars, adding: "T.I.N.T is filled with layered and soulful production which doesn’t overshadow Efya’s rich voice. Rather it is the perfect backdrop for the singer to work her magic. [It] is a soulful blend of songs mixed with West African sensibilities. As Nigeria and Ghana markets begin to merge, Efya might just be the sub-region’s first soul star".[8]
