TEDxBirgunj is an independently organized TED event that is proposed to be hosted on 17 December 2016[1][2] in Birgunj city of Nepal. It will be the first ever TEDx event in the Terai region of Nepal.

Overview

TEDx events are independently organized and licensed TED events that have no any intent for monetary gain, although sponsors may be hired to cover costs. They are generally hosted in developing countries with a slogan of "ideas worth spreading".

TEDx has been hosted twice in the Kathmandu city of Nepal in Patan and Bhaktapur. TEDxBirgunj is the upcoming TED event of Nepal that turns out to be the first of Terai region and third TED event of the country. It is proposed to be held on 17 December 2016 by the TEDxBirgunj Community in Town Hall of Birgunj. Like in all other TEDx talks, the speakers are not paid. The attendees may be charged for tickets so as to cover the expenses of the event. This event will hopefully act as a great platform for innovative minds to unveil their thoughts, ideas, talents and endowments that are "worth spreading" and could possibly change the world.

The speakers in the event are allowed to make a conversation (popularly known as "talk") or show presentations about their relevant topic within 18 minutes of time. The topic can be of any discipline; technology, politics, physiology, science, sociology and so on.

Vineet Dalmia is known to have sparked the proposal for TEDxBirgunj and is known as curator and licensee of TEDxBirgunj.
