Tactical Legends is an upcoming turn-based tactics video game for Microsoft Windows. The game has been greenlit by the Steam community,[1] and will be released in December 2016. An online version as well as versions for macOS, Linux, Xbox, Playstation, iOS, and Android are currently planned.[2] The game is currently available to download from the developer's website.[3]

Gameplay

The visuals reminisce of a medieval fantasy world. Two players each control a king on the battlefield. At the start of each turn, players receive 10 gold tokens. Players can spend this gold on raising units to fight for them, or on performing the ‘upgrade’ action which unlocks two different unit layout types. The game continues until one of the kings is defeated by the other.

The game currently includes a puzzle/skirmish mode, which sets specifically mapped challenges to overcome, each having set maps and unit layouts. This is as opposed to the standard game play, where various objects, obstacles, and pieces of debris dot the map, giving the map a different layout for the player to adapt to and use each time.

Units

The King is the most important unit in the game because the game ends when a king dies. If you lose your king, you lose the game; kill your enemy's king, and you win. It is a ranged unit with short attack distance. The King has low action points, a low attack rate and low health, but he has heavy armor and has the benefit of attacking twice in the same turn.

The swordsman is a melee unit with high health points and medium armor. He is a heavy unit and can take hits. In conjunction with his high rate of attack and a decent mobility, the swordsman makes for a strong unit on the battlefield.

The archer is a ranged unit with a high range. In addition to their range of attack, archers have a high mobility, so they can cross large swaths of the battlefield in one movement if they have not previously used that turn. However, because it takes so much time to reload and aim the bow, archer expend a lot of action points on their shots. They are lights units who wear no armor and have low health points, so keep them back or defended, lest they end up on the business end of heavy hitting melee units.

The healer is a special unit. They have no attack and low health points. Additionally, healers have no armor, and only have a medium mobility. Their range of healing, too, is limited. So if you find yourself commanding healers, you need to keep them positioned in the optimal spot where they can be defended, but also reach your units when they are injured. Because healers can also add additional health to your units (even if their health is still at its max) they are often vital in an army’s success in the field of battle.

Assassins are very mobile, ranged units. They have low health points and no armor, but the assassins can poison their targets, sapping their health for ten turns. This ability, in combination with their high mobility and range, makes assassins very dangerous units.

Maps

Blizzard Passage. Spark River is a natural border between two kingdoms now at war. In summer, due to the fresh air, redolence of coniferous forest, and the swift sound of the river, people flock to its shores alone and in company. Eventually summer's wrath fades. Soon the flowers wilt and the leaves fall, dead. Winter asserts its rule with ferocious snowstorms. Frost binds the river with sturdy ice; this place becomes an ideal crossing for the hostile armies.

Ruins. Long before these ruins were abandoned to the mercy of time and nature, they were the foundations of a great city bordering two states. The symbol of pride for one and envy for the other, controlling the city became the spark that started the bloody war that rages to this day. These ruins stand as a reminder to both peoples that even the invincible, the pious, the confident, and the unique are subject to death and destruction. As time flows, and generations pass, people inevitably forget these cruel lessons, despite the lasting impacts before their eyes. Now these ruins of a once great city serve the sole purpose of harboring battles. For it is only among the dead and dying, pooling in blood on the stone foundations, and creeping in the shadows among charred walls, that the forgotten past is remembered.

Forest shack. The forest of Aira is endless, magnificent, and mysterious. Sunlight trickles through the saturated tree tops and creates an inexpressible beauty out of the battle between light and shadow. Myriads of birds sing in unison, taking the human consciousness far away from this world. Like the sirens’ song, this intoxicating aura often bodes ill. It is easy to lose one’s place among the shifting trees and whispering leaves. Travelers should keep their swords close, lest they fall victim to the untold beasts that are rumored to roam the fairy forest.

Development

The studio called Veragaming began its work in 2010, creating INTERNET projects by developing and optimizing software for different industrial enterprises. This was the studio's primary mission from the beginning. The studio is made up of a small team of five girls and guys, and are programmers and designers that serve local industrial companies.[4] We always wanted to create games The collective of the studio, consisting of hardcore gamers, had the idea of creating a video game for a number of years. In 2015 Unreal engine became free and it took the initiative in deciding to start the studio's first project. In July 2015 ,the team began to develop Tactical Legends.
