Early life

Raised in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, New York, he started singing in the third grade and in his church choir. In 7th grade he picked up playing the trumpet and joined one of Brooklyn's most acclaimed marching bands, the Jackie Robinson Steppers.[2] While a member of the Jackie Robinson Steppers, he landed a role as Troy Harper in Jim McKay's Drama/Documentary Film, "Our Song" (2000).

Career

In 2004, Tahiem's singing ability caught the eye of legendary DJ and Producer, DJ Scratch of EPMD. DJ Scratch offered Washington an opportunity to work on a demo to eventually shop to a major label. The demo process spanned almost a years time and Tahiem worked with many artists including another Tahiem-Tahiem Trevor Smith, Jr. (better known by his stage name Busta Rhymes). Just before completion of the demo, Tahiem, had to put his music career on hold to provide for his family. Eventually, Tahiem received news of some possible job leads and music career opportunities in Nashville, TN and decided to move to the south for a fresh start.

From 2005-2007, Tahiem spent most of his time singing background for other artists in Nashville. He is most known for his days singing background for gospel duo Joint Heirs. In 2007, Tahiem decided to venture out and do his own music again. From 2007-2009, Washington spent his time performing in local bars and nightclubs while earning money to work on another demo. In July 2010, he completed his demo he titled "FINALLY" and instead, released it as an EP.[3] He received generally mixed to positive reviews from music critics so he decided to work on another project in hopes of more favorable reception from listeners. In November, 2011, Tahiem signed a deal with rapidly growing Independent Music Label, Outlet Records.[4] Tahiem's single "More of Me"[5] is the first release off his highly anticipated album "Better" slated to be released Fall 2012 under Outlet Records.[6]
