Te Hui Amorangi ki Te Tai Rāwhiti is an Episcopal polity (or Diocese) of Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia in Tairawhiti. The Hui Amorangi serves communities on the East Coast of New Zealand's North Island – from Potaka in the North, to Woodville in the South.[1] In general this covers the Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu and the Turanga-nui-a-kiwa iwi. According to the 2013 census, there are approximately 14,000 Māori Anglicans within this area.[2]

The Hui Amorangi is also home to two Māori Anglican boarding schools, Te Aute College and Hukarere Girls’ College.[5]

Leadership

Brown Turei has been the Pihopa ki te Tai Rāwhiti (Bishop of Te Tai Rāwhiti) since 1992. Turei is also Te Pihopa o Aotearoa (Head of the Māori Anglican Church) and Archbishop of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa-New Zealand and Polynesia.[3] It has been announced that Turei is to retire as Bishop of Tairawhiti on 31 December and as Moari archbishop on 31 March.[6]

The Amorangi Administrator is Andrew Tamihere, in charge of all Amorangi administration, fiscal performance, and general management for the Tairawhiti Trust Board.

Each of the Rohe in Tairawhiti is led by a senior priest known as a Minita-a-Rohe. They are as follows:

Rev Don Tamihere is the Kaihautu (Principal) of Te Rau Theological College, the official diocesan training centre for laity and clergy. Te Rau College also offers a Diploma in Anglican Studies in conjunction with the College of St. John the Evangelist.

Ruihana Paenga and Rev Christopher Douglas-Huriwai are the diocesan Youth Enablers coordinating youth ministry from Wharekahika in the North, to Woodville in the South.

Te Hui Amorangi has a Trust Board which oversees its land, buildings, and assets. Members are as follows:
