Tha Block Is Hot is the debut studio album by American hip hop recording artist Lil Wayne; it was released on November 2, 1999, by Cash Money Records.[8] Except the use of the word "fuck", the album is nearly free of explicit lyrics from Wayne himself, due to his mother's wishes. The most violent and sexual verses were done by Big Tymers and the other Hot Boys.[9]

Commercial performance

The album debuted at number 3 on the US Billboard 200, selling 229,500 copies in its first week. In its second week, the album sold 117,000 copies in the United States.[10][11] On December 10, 1999, the album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for the shipments of one million copies in the United States. As of June 2012, the album sold over 1.4 million copies in the United States.[12]
