History

The Daily Muse launched on September 6, 2011, with eight editors and eleven columnists[4] and $2,710 in funding via Indiegogo.[5]

After a small round of funding from Y Combinator, 500 Startups and others, it received $1.2 million in funding[6] in January 2013 to continue growing the business.

After rebranding to The Muse in June 2013,[7] it was a finalist in The Wall Street Journal Startup of the Year competition in Fall 2013.[8]

Tyra Banks and others invested $1 million in The Muse in February 2014.[9]

In May 2015, The Muse announced a $10 million Series A round led by Theresia Gouw at Aspect Ventures, with participation by DBL Partners and QED Ventures.[10]

Traffic and demographics

The site now has over 3.5 million monthly active users[11] and has expanded from originally targeting the 20-35 year female demographic to offer content for all professionals.

The Muse's users are 65% female, and over 50% non-white, with an average age of 29, which is much younger than LinkedIn's 47.[12]
