The Himalayas (Hangul: 히말라야; RR: Himallaya) is a 2015 South Korean drama film directed by Lee Seok-hoon. The film was released on December 16, 2015.[2]

The story is about a mountain climber(um hong gil) who saved the life of a young mountain climber(mu-taek) and his friend ,after saving them he warned them never to climb mountains again ,few days later he and his crew got a project and he needs new members ,one of his crew member introduced him to two young members who happen to be the ones he asked not to climb mountains ,he refused to accept them but they would not give up,he had no choice but to say yes to their request to join in the crews next adventure ,after climbing the first mountain hong gil and mu teak became close friends and they climbed few other mountains together until hong gil could no longer climb again because of his legs ,he stopped at step 14 with mu teak,muteak has to continue and he was made the head of a new team which he trained using hong gil's techniques,on their mission muteak died with one of person but before he died his friend search for him and died crying beside him ,few days before their anniversary hong gil was asked who was the best mountain climber while lecturing some people,he said it was muteak's friend who could not let his friend die alone ,he then decided to search for the body of muteak ,gathering his old crew ,he set out to find his body ,he found it but the body was heavier than he thought ,so he and his crew put some stones on him and removed the chain on his neck containing a message for his wife .hong gil after this event climbed the level 16th mountain with his bad legs believing muteak was his legs and the people who died with were his lungs and heart.


Mountaineer Uhm Hong-Kil and his expedition team go to the Himalayas to find the body of Park Moo-Taek.

The film grossed US$8.55 million on the third weekend[3] and US$2.5 million on the fourth weekend.[1]

Justin Lowe of The Hollywood Reporter called the film "a tepidly paced adventure tale."[4]
