Labinot "Larry" Gashi (born in Libya)[1][2][3] better known by his stage names The Kid Gashi, later just Gashi and G4SHI (also pronounced Gashi), is an ethnic Albanian rapper and singer originally from Kosovo now based in Brooklyn, New York.

Biography

Gashi was born to ethnic Albanian parents from Kosovo who had fled to Libya.[2] Moving to a number of countries, mainly in Europe, Larry and his family made it to New York City in 1998, now residing in Brooklyn.[2][4]

Struggling to pick up the English language, he turned to music to help ease his adjustment into society, and quickly became hooked to rap. Gashi graduated and earned a football scholarship to play at a Division 1-AA school in Massachusetts.

Although Gashi earned honors during his first year in college, he still felt like something was missing. He finally decided that if he was going to be serious about making it in the music industry, he had to put both feet in and decided to drop out of college and quickly began working on his craft and preparing his first mixtape. He adopted initially the name The Kid Gashi[2] to change it later to Gashi and eventually G4SHI.

G4shi was the winner of several music contests and importantly winner of “First Time Performances” of First Look Sessions in both 2010 and 2011.[5] His first project, the mixtape Last of a Rare Breed in 2011 was hosted by Don Cannon, and featured tracks with Nipsey Hussle and French Montana. In 2012, G4shi founded his own group called Moxy.[5] 2012 was a breakthrough year with the release of the hit "Rocket". In 2012, he also released “Beautiful World” under his crew Moxy. Future tracks, which included "Who Made Me" and "Laughing", were featured on Hot 97 after Peter Rosenberg co-signed the young phenom. G4shi also attracted the attention of fashion and clothing businesses. As of 2012 Gashi is the face and the representative of "Problem Child NYC" clothing line and did modeling for Problem Child line in New York.[5]

In 2013, he released a follow-up mixtape I'll Be Right With You [3] A later project, entitled, 4Play featured his single "Room 4". [6]
