Think India is an all India forum for students of India's premier educational institutes. In broader sense, Think India includes students, researchers, alumni and faculty members to keep the organisation input coming from different strata of the premier institute's family. Think India was founded in 2006 by the students of Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, NLSIU Bangalore, NIMHANS and accompanied by other professional institutes' students of Bangalore.[1]
History
The idea originated in the 2006, when students of IISc, IIMB, NLSIU, NIMHANS and other professional college students interacted and sought to have a platform to work for the society. Assisted by the civil society in Bengaluru, Think India initially started as a discussion group with students all over the South India joining the idea to promote nationalistic fervour and cause for the society. Think India organised six different workshops in Bangalore, Coimbetore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mysore and Mangalore as precursors of the first Think India Convention. This convention was held at the Art of Living Ashram in Bengaluru on 11–13 January 2007.
The event saw participation from all national institutes and major professional colleges of the South India. Various initiatives started in late 2009 to extend the work area of Think India from the southern part of the country to Pan India scale. On 23 May 2010, a round table conference was organised where students from various states had come, with students of premier institutes brainstorming upon the future course action, concluded with giving a national status to Think India. And the first team under the guidance of a civil activist, Nagaraj Reddy was organised.[2]
Activities
Forum’s activities are to organise events, workshops, seminars and conventions on National & Regional level involving participation of premier institutes; at the same time Think India assists students organizing similar groups on campuses to deepen awareness about issues related to our India.[2]
Ideology
On Discussions of ideology Think India, is an invitation to bring together the best talents of the country and to infuse them a ‘Nation First’ attitude[3]
Objectives
Objectives of Think India are perfectly spelled in the Think India Bengaluru Declaration, adopted on occasion of first Think India Convention held at Art of Living ashram, Bengaluru on 13th day of January.
- Think, design and develop sustainable development strategies for under developed and rural Bharat
- Think and act to meet the environmental, cultural and security needs of Bharat and the world
- Motivate and support the initiatives of the organisations and individuals to inculcate India centric action, propagation and implementation of thought and designs
- Initiate and sustain India-centric thoughts and activities in campus and among intelligentsia
- Denounce, in thought and action, all forms of terrorism, illegitimate interference in religious and cultural matters and any forces and design, working against our national interest
- Actively oppose any sectarian and narrow-minded activities of factious tendencies and engage ourselves to promote social harmony in every possible way
- Support and uphold the concept of gender justice and promote family values, the unique contribution of Bharat to the world civilization
Today
Think India identifies itself as "the national platform for young people belonging to Ivy League of India to inspire them to contribute their share to society and country."[4]
Think India (2007)
on 11, 12, 13 January 2007, First Think India Convention held at Art of Living Ashram, Bengaluru. Sri Sri Ravishankar, founder of Art of Living inaugurated the first convention of students and youth belonging to premier and professional colleges of south India. With wide student support to the event Think India took centre stage in whole of south India. With Think India organising six difference workshops in Bangaloire, Coimbtore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mysore and Mangalore in a precursor to First Think India Convention, all four states were properly represented at the convention. Eminent personalities such as N. Santosh Hegde, former Karnataka Lokayukta, inspired students to take action for development of the Nation. Nagaraj Reddy was Convener of this Convention. In three day convention student took oath and Think India declaration was adopted on 13 January 2007.[3]
Think India 2011: India Today India Tomorrow
In 2011, national level workshop titled “India Today & India Tomorrow” was organized on 21, 22 May 2011 at Pune where students from every part of India participated in the event, Giving, Think India an all-India colour.[5] Rishikesh Pandey then Chairman of Students Council IISc was the Convener of the Workshop. In Pune, 16 member committee formed in for the Think India which was declared to execute Think India working. Now, Think India, in its present status, is an independent forum for National Institutes student community of all fields of study.[2]
Think India 2012: Vision for a Vibrant Nation
In 2012, on January 28–29, Think India had organised THINK INDIA[6] Eminent personalities enlightened students of IITs, IIMs and NLUs like premier institutes at two-day Think India 2012 conference organized by Think India at Satish Dhawan Auditorium, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore it saw participation of over 200 student, researchers, alumni and faculty from 27 different institutes of India, including topmost IITs, IIMs, NLUs and NITs in India. Prof P R Mahapatra, Dean Engineering Indian Institute of Science inaugurated and Prof Milind Marathe, National President of ABVP presided over the inauguration.[7] Sreevalsa Kolathayar, Chairman Students Council, IISc Bangalore was Convener and Reema Mukerjee, President SAC, IIM Bangalore was Co-convener of the conference.[8]
