Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council (TMBC) is the second level local authority for the Borough of Tonbridge and Malling in Kent, United Kingdom.
History
The Local Government Act 1972 created the District of Tonbridge and Malling by merging Tonbridge Urban District, Malling Rural District and parts of Tonbridge Rural District. Tonbridge and Malling District Council was established as the local authority for the new district. It took over the responsibilities of Tonbridge Urban District Council, Malling Rural District Council and Tonbridge Rural District Council in its area. The council started functioning on 1 April 1974. The district received borough status on 16 December 1983 and the council was renamed Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council. The ceremonial head of the council, the chairman, was known as mayor after that date.
