Tony Perkins (born August 25, 1959) is an American television news anchor best known for his work as ABC's Good Morning America's weather caster (1999-2005). He is currently a weekday evening anchor for FOX 5 News at 10pm on WTTG in Washington, D.C.

History

Perkins holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from American University (1981).[1] Perkins was a professional stand-up comedian from 1983 to 1993, appearing at clubs and colleges across the country. He began his broadcast career as a desk assistant for the ABC News Washington bureau. From 1985-92, he served as a producer and on-air contributor to The Donnie Simpson Show on WKYS-FM in Washington, D.C. From 1986-88, he hosted and produced DC20 Breakaway for WDCA in Washington. From 1993-99, he served as a weather personality at WTTG in Washington, and co-anchored Fox Morning News from 1998-99, when he joined ABC's Good Morning America,[2] where his catchphrase to turn it over to the local weather was "the weather in your neighborhood". He was a replacement for Spencer Christian, who moved to San Francisco to do the weather for KGO-TV in 1999. He left Good Morning America in late 2005 to return to WTTG in Washington.[3] On GMA he was succeeded by Mike Barz.[4]

Other media work

Perkins was an occasional in studio guest to the Don and Mike Show, and now to its successor the Mike O'Meara Show in Washington D.C. He also hosts his own weekly comedy and entertainment podcast with co-host Gary Stein, the Tony Perkins Show featuring Gary Stein.[5]
