Tyler David Gotto (born June 3, 1985) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman. He was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to Dave and Marcella Gotto. He is currently playing for SønderjyskE Ishockey of the Denmark professional elite league Metal Ligaen, with whom he has won three consecutive Danish championships.

Career

Tyler Gotto was raised in Calgary, Alberta where he played minor hockey for the P.S.A. organization. He continued his minor hockey career in Calgary playing for the Calgary Northstars of the Alberta Midget Hockey League, where during the 2002-2003 season he the Canadian National Championship (Air Canada Cup), now named the Telus Cup. Gotto finished tops in the league in defencemen scoring and was the top scoring defencemen on the Northstars and 5th overall.[1] The Northstars proceeded to win the Alberta Provincial championship. During the playoffs Tyler lead all defencemen in scoring with 4 goals and 8 assists, and was 4th overall in the league.[2] Afterwards Grotto joined the Calgary Canucks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, playing three years out of the Max Bell Centre. After his final season with the team he accepted a scholarship to Niagara University, to continue his hockey career playing NCAA hockey for the Niagara University Purple Eagles. During his time in the NCAA, Tyler's team attended one NCAA National Tournament for Ice Hockey in 2008. Tyler was selected as team Captain for the 2009-10 season. During his four-year NCAA career Tyler collected many league Honors. Following his Collegiate career Tyler signed a professional Hockey contract with the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL in 2010. In January 2011 Tyler Gotto was traded from the Toledo Walleye to the Bakersfield Condors.[3] After the 2011 season Tyler signed a professional contract with the Odense Bulldogs in the Denmark Elite League.[4] Tyler was named an Assistant Captain with the club in Sept 2011.[5] The Odense Bulldogs lost in the 2011-2012 Finals of the Danish Championship in Game 7 to Herning Blue Fox. Afterwards Gotto played in the HockeyAllsvenskan of Sweden for Mora IK, before returning to Denmark with SønderjyskE Ishockey. For two seasons in a row, the team won the championship in a 7-game final, with Gotto scoring the game-winning goal in 2013 and being named Man of the Match in 2014 with 3 assists.
