Umueshi is a community in Ideato South Local Government Area in Imo State, Nigeria. It is the home of Umueshi Gully Erosion intervention project by the World Bank.[1]

The community comprises 15 villages which include: Okorobi, Umuezeanuwai, Umunwangwu, Umuanajughi, Ukabi, Umuokwara, Umudieshi, Okoroikpa, Umuduruaku, Umudire, Obinugwu, etc. Umueshi is a Christian community. There are two major denominations: Catholic and Anglican. The native inhabitants of Umueshi speak Igbo and English fluently, and their main occupations are agriculture and trade. The Umueshi people are peace-loving people who maintain cordial relations with their neighbours: Ntueke, Amanator, Ogboko, Obohia, Isiekenesi, Dikenafai, Umuobom, Ugbelle, Umuma-isiaku, Umuchima and Urualla. Above all, the community is a peace-loving, hospitable community.

Other villages in Umueshi that are not included are Umuokwaraire, Umuawa, Umuokohia Umuokaranadike and Okabi. UMUAWA VILLAGE: Umuawa village is a village in umunagankpa clan of Umueshi autonomous community Ideato south Local Government area of Imo state. They are civilized and most educated village in Umueshi. There are two major denominations: Anglican and Apostolic. Their major occupations are Agriculture and trade. They are peace-loving people. Their neighboring villages are umuokaraire village,umuelee in Amanator autonomous community, Agwa village in Amanator autonomous community and umuegbu in umuma-isiaku autonomous community . Because of their civilization and intelligent role they play in umueshi,the village is called AWA CITY. In umueshi they produce the first Economist,academic doctor,Geologist,Biochemist, opthometric doctor,pharmasist,chartered stockbroker, statistician, psychologist Geology and mining and first lecturer.

Erosion

Ideato South has faced erosion problems.[1][2] An intervention programme was kicked-off with the support of World bank. Umueshi Gully Erosion intervention site has Amanato and Ntueke as neighbouring (watershed contributor) communities.[1]
