University of Pedagogical Sciences "Hector Alfredo Pineda Zaldivar" (UCPETP) is a center of Higher Education for teachers located in the capital of the Republic of Cuba, which has the purpose of training teachers to teach vocational subjects
History
The creation of the university has its origins in a project of the Organization of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) requested by the Cuban government. Originally called Pedagogical Institute of Technical Education (ISPET) and settled in the Student Center of Agricultural Sciences (CEDCA), in the municipality Cattle. This project was on the United Nations Program for Development (UNDP) specification CUB 71 to 511. It started teaching in the school year 1972 - 1973 when it ran a training course and was officially created during 1973 - 1974.
In the school year 1976 - 1977 with the network's Higher Pedagogical Institutes MINED, the center becomes ISPETP and worked with the Faculties of: Technology, Agricultural Sciences and Economics . The degree of all specialties was conducted in the current College MINBAS Tables and local Polytechnic Institute "José Martí". In 1979 was approved by the Faculty of Mechanics. From 1986 the entry was made with ISPETP alumni related specialties and assigned the name Hector Alfredo Pineda Zaldivar, a leading educator killed in the line of duty. In 1987 the creation of the Scientific Council of the center was. In 1991 the Studies Centre for Technical and Vocational Education arose.
Given the situation of the period faculties were created in the Higher Pedagogical Institutes in the rest of the country and students were transferred to each of their home provinces.
Today, the institution deploys an intensive academic program that extends within and beyond Cuba's geographic boundaries, forming and training hundreds of professionals teaching in Vocational Education.

The University of Pedagogical Sciences is named after one of its teachers: Hector Alfredo Pineda Zaldivar, who fell in combat in the region of Buzz in the People's Republic of Angola.
