The Utrecht sneltram (literally fast tram) are two light rail lines (line 60 and 61) in the Dutch city of Utrecht. The sneltram light rail system was constructed during the late 1970s and early 1980s, and the first sections – between Utrecht city centre and the suburb of Nieuwegein – opened to passengers on 17 December 1983. A second branch of the line (line 61), to IJsselstein, opened 14 December 1985.
Formerly operated by Connexxion, the Utrecht light rail line has been operated by Qbuzz since December 2011.[1]
A portion of the line in the city centre was closed in 2013 due to construction at Utrecht Centraal station and is set to reopen within a few years. By 2018, a new branch east to Uithof is proposed to open.
