Vanessa Brady OBE is a British interior designer[1][2] and businesswoman[3] with commercial interests spanning property, construction,[4] furniture,[5] publishing[6] and academia.

Life and business career

With thirty years experience in interior design, Brady's private client list includes two countries' Heads of State and a Crown Royal Family. A regular speaker at various universities across the UK and around the world,[7] including London Metropolitan University where she launched a mentoring programme for the design industry and the registered charity, the Vanessa Brady Foundation to help emerging talent gain employment. Brady has been asked to sit on various judging panels for high-profile awards within the design industry.[8][9]

She started her professional career in interior design in 1983 when a Middle East investor and his partner asked Brady to move to London from Bournemouth to launch a property development company. In 2009 she founded the Society of British Interior Design (SBID)[10] setting for the first time, a minimum standard of education to practise as a professional interior designer in Britain. Robin Gibb, then president of global copyright protection organisation CISAC became the first SBID ambassador.

In June 2014 Brady was appointed an OBE[11] in recognition of her services to the interior design industry and the UK economy.[12][13]

In 2013, along with radio and TV presenter Mike Read and charity Trustee and communications professional Ian Freeman, Brady formed the British Plaque Trust. The organisation's objective is to commemorate the lives and successes of notable figures by recognising the buildings and places which they inhabited.

Political activities

Brady was invited by HRH Prince Michael of Kent to join the all party lobby group for SME. She was asked by His Royal Highness to speak on behalf of change to the protection of intellectual property rights.

By invitation from a member of the House of Lords, Brady wrote a white paper for the protection of intellectual property for the house review. John Whittingdale MP, who chairs an intellectual property and copyright protection lobby group, invited her to represent interior design.
