Variation Selectors Supplement is a Unicode block containing 240 Variation Selector format characters (designated as VS17 through VS256). They are used to specify a specific glyph variant for a unicode character. They are only used with CJK Unified ideographs to specify a variant glyph form registered in the Ideographic Variation Database, and currently only variation sequences using VS17 through VS48 have been registered.[3]
