Veer Lorik Stone also known as Veer Lorik Patthar is around 5 km distance from Robertsganj at Markundi Hill in Sonbhadra district. It is situated near Eco point Robertsganj besides SH 5 Road.[1] Veer Lorik Stone is Love sign of Veer Lorik and Manjari. Veer Lorik cut this stone for giving his true love proof using his sword by a single cutting. This stone is a mark of love & bravery of Veer Lorik & Manjari, the main characters of local folklore ‘Loriki’ and aptly described so in the folksongs, sung by native folksingers. Govardhan Puja is celebrated here every year.[2]

Story

There was a state called Agori at riverside of son River in Satyug (Golden Age). Now it is in the Sonbhadra district. Molagat was the name of the king of the state. Molagat was a very good king but he was jealous of a Yadav man named Mehra because he was powerful. One day King Molagat invited Mehra for a gambling match. It was proposed that the winner of the gambling game will rule on the state. Mehra accepted the king's proposal. They began gambling. King had hoped that he would win, but he did not. The king lost everything and had to leave his kingdom. Seeing the plight of the king Lord Brahma came as a disguised monk and gave him some coins, he said that once you play a game with these coins your rule will return. The King did the same. This time seems Mehra lost. He lost six times and had nothing left to lose, including his wife. But his wife was pregnant. And the seventh time he has lost his wife's womb as well. It was all very strange but Mehra had to accept. But the king seemed to show generosity towards Mehra. He said that if the upcoming baby is a boy then he will work in the stables and if the upcoming baby is girl then she will be appointed in the service of the Queen.

But the story comes at an awkward turn. Mehra's seventh child, as well as a large wonderful baby girl is born her name was Manjari. King realizes he send soldiers for a period Liwane. Manjari's mother refuses to send her on. Manjari's mother send message to king that after marriage of Manjari, he have to kill her husband to take Manjari . It's assume king.

The entire Manjari is too young. Then parents anxious about his wedding suits. Manjari, who is aware that her bridesmaid. Who will beat the king after he married. Manjari telling your parents that you go to the place of the people named Balia. There will be a youngster named Veer Lorik.he was her previous birth's lover and also can beat the king.

Manjari Lorik's father's met and the relationship of the two is fixed. Lorik over half a million people at the wedding to marry implies Manjari. They reached at the riverside of son, but the king send troops to fight with him. Lorik seems lost in the war. Manjari is an extraordinary girl. She goes to Veer Lorik and told him that there is a Gothani village near the Agori Fort . There is a temple of Lord Shiva. You go serve the Lord.Victory in this war will be yours. Lorik wins and Both were married. Manjari is toppled. But before leaving the threshold of the village she tells Lorik do something people here remember that Lorik and Manjari ever loved to such an extent. Veer Lorik asked tell me what to do so, that it become sign of our love and any loving couple will not returned disappointed from here. Manjari pointing at a stone and said that cut this stone with the same sword blows cut. Lorik did the same. There was a new problem. Stone was in two pieces. But part of it fell down from the mountain.

Manjari said made such a cut stone Stand in that both share the same space. Lorik did the same and made the Sign of true love Veer Lorik Stone to stand here forever.[3]

During Govardhan puja many Couples come here for the worship. they wish that as the love of Veer Lorik and Manjari their love will also become forever. This stone is a mark of love & bravery of Lorik & Manjari, the main characters of local folklore ‘Loriki’ and aptly described so in the folksongs, sung by native folksingers.
