Viçosa is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Minas Gerais, located in the Zona da Mata, 228 km (142 miles) southeast of the state capital of Belo Horizonte. In 2004, its population was reported as 73,121, and the area of the municipality is 279 km². The altitude is 648 meters. It hosts the Universidade Federal de Viçosa, which is considered one of the best agricultural and technological universities in Brazil.
