Career

Kalima was elected as the MMD member for Kasenengwa constituency in the Eastern Province in the 2011 election. She was criticised for not visiting her constituency enough.[1] Her victory was nullified by the Supreme Court in 2013 due to electoral malpractices, including giving bribes of bicycles and chitenge material.[2][3]

Kalima was elected as the MMD member for Kasenengwa constituency in a by-election on 11 September 2014.[4] Afterwards, she criticised the Patriotic Front for trying to buy votes in her electorate.[5]

In January 2016, Kalima called for an alliance between the MMD and PF parties,[6] In April 2016, she endorsed Edgar Lungu's candidature,[7] and she then stood as a Patriotic Front candidate at the 2016 election, retaining her constituency.[8] She has been quoted as saying that being in opposition is a "sheer waste of time."[9]

Kalima was appointed as Minister for Gender by Edgar Lungu in October 2016.[10]
