Villa sisters

The Villa sisters, also known as the Villa del Orbe sisters,[lower-alpha 1] were the Dominican sisters who made the first flag of the Dominican Republic.[1]

They were the issue of Juan Ramón Villa Jáquez (1781–1843),[lower-alpha 2] and his wife María de la Antigua del Orbe Bocanegra.[lower-alpha 3][3]

  1. This name uses Spanish naming customs: the first or paternal family name is Villa and the second or maternal family name is Del Orbe.
  2. The son of Manuel Francisco Villa (a rich[2] Spanish colonist[3]) and María del Carmen Jáquez (of French descent), Juan Ramón Villa Jáquez was mayor of La Vega in 1811 and 1813,[2] a royal standard-bearer and a commandant during the colonial era, and an officer during the Haitian domination.[3]
  3. She was an illegitimate[2] daughter of Capt. José del Orbe and Josefa Bocanegra. Her father was a wealthy cattleman and mayor of La Vega in 1779.[2][3][4]
