Vince Leah Trophy

The Vince Leah Trophy is an annual award given to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League during the regular season. Previously, this award was the Gordon Petrie Memorial Trophy, starting in 1967.

Vince Leah Born in Winnipeg, "Uncle Vince" Leah was a sportswriter with both The Winnipeg Tribune and Winnipeg Free Press for over 60 years. For more than three decades his dedication made it possible for youngsters to play hockey. Vince Leah founded the Excelsiors Hockey Club; 40 of those players went on to pro hockey. Vince Leah authored books on football and hockey including A History of Hockey in Manitoba.
