Violet Brown (née Mosse; born 10 March 1900)[2] is a Jamaican supercentenarian who is, at the age of 116 years, 272 days, the second-oldest verified living person in the world behind Emma Morano. She is also the first verified supercentenarian from Jamaica and the oldest verified Jamaican person ever. Her date of birth has been variously reported as 4 March 1900,[3] 10 March 1900, and 15 March 1900.[1][4] However, it was officially recognised as 10 March 1900 by the Gerontology Research Group in 2014.[2] Brown was born when Jamaica was a part of the British Empire and is the last living former subject of Queen Victoria.[5]

Brown was one of four children born to John Mosse, a sugar boiler, and Elizabeth Riley, the latter of whom died aged 96. She was baptized at the age of 13. She married Augustus Gaynor Brown, with whom she had one daughter.[1]

Brown's first child, Harold Fairweather (born 20 April 1920), at the age of 96 years, 231 days, is believed to be the oldest person ever with a living parent.[6]
