WTAR is a Sports formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Norfolk, Virginia, serving Hampton Roads.[2] WTAR is owned and operated by Sinclair Communications.[3]
History
WTAR began broadcasting on September 21, 1923, with 15 W power. The output was increased to 5 KW by 1941.[4]
On July 6, 1934, WTAR dropped its affiliation with CBS and became an affiliate of NBC. At that time, the station was owned and operated by the Norfolk Ledger-Dispatch and Virginian-Pilot.[5]
FM
A sister station, WTAR-FM, began broadcasting in 1947 with 50 KW power.[4]
