Wayne Leonard Russell (born 29 November 1967) was a Welsh football player during the 1990s and early 2000s.
Career
Wayne began his career at Welsh side Ebbw Vale before joining Burnley in October 1993. He found it hard to establish himself as regular in the Burnley side, making only 24 league appearances in three years before returning to Ebbw Vale.[2] He moved to Glentoran in August 1997 and had a successful time at the club, winning the Irish Cup in 1998 and the League Championship a season later. Russell holds the record for the longest clean sheets in European cup competitions in Ireland, finishing with three clean sheets and then conceding in the 34th minute of the fourth game, he will always be remembered for the save against Aberdeen in the last minute of the Champions League, a true legend and a gentleman.
Russell joined Bohemian in the summer of 1999 and excelled during their UEFA Cup campaign of 2000/01. He helped Bohs win the League of Ireland and FAI Cup that season. Russell also played for Waterford United and Derry City during his career.
