WellAway Limited is a Bermuda-incorporated healthcare insurance company that provides health and travel insurance for expatriates. It is headquartered in Hamilton, Bermuda with global offices in France, Belgium and the UK.
History
In 2014 Griselle Chernys, member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Health Care Executives, founded WellAway Limited in Hamilton Bermuda, offering expatriate health insurance.[1] In 2009, the insurance and reinsurance sector in Bermuda reported total assets of $442 billion. In comparison, the banking sector had total assets of $22.8 billion, and the Island’s investment funds sector reported an aggregate Net Asset Value (NAV) of $171 billion.[2]
Partnership
On February 24, 2015 WellAway received accreditation from the United States government as compliant under the requirements of Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) to distribute its expat plans.[3] It’s the first ACA compliant plan available in the US for expatriates. In order to administer its USA-compliant expatriate health plans WellAway partnered with Miami-based international third party administrator company PayerFusion on February 26, 2015.[4]
In 2015, Wellaway also launched the La Vie À l’Étranger healthcare program, partnering with Caisse des Français de l’Etranger (CFE), the French Social Security for expatriates.[5] This plan includes access to support tools such as travel allowances for medical services, online personal health records, and personalized customer service support.[6]
Services
WellAway Limited offers international health care insurance programs with, dental, vision and maternity options for the expatriates in the United States as well as in Europe and the Caribbean. It's expat healthcare programs includes; La Vie à l’Etranger, the New American and OneWorld.[7]
La Vie à l’Etranger is a program designed with the cooperation of Caisse des Français de l’Etranger (CFE) to help French expatriates around the world. The New American and La Vie à l’Étranger both offerr Affordable Care Act (ACA/Obamacare) compliant healthcare plans coupled with support tools for expatriates coming to the United States. The medical services are provided through an open-access provider network of over 1.1 million healthcare professionals.[8] The OneWorld, an international healthcare program, which helps individuals worldwide providing flexible plans dependent upon geographic location, coverage needs, and expenditure allowance.[9][10] It's expatriate health plans also include added value services such as online personal member portal, e-consultations and second medical opinions.[11][12]
In 2016, WellAway launched a Student Plan for J1, J2, F1, F2 and Q visas holders entering the US and Senior Explorer, a health plan for expats aged 65 to 79 years old.[13]
Awards and recognition
In 2004, Griselle Chernys, WellAway's founder and CEO received the Woman of the Year Award by the Business Advisory of the National Republican Congressional Committee and President George W. Bush. In 2015, she was acknowledged by President Barack Obama for her knowledge in healthcare administration issues and reimbursement experience in all aspects of regulatory, administrative and insurance coverage development.[14] In 2011, she was named a Finalist in both the Lifetime Achievement and Best Entrepreneur in Healthcare categories in the 8th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business.[15]
