The Citizens League (CL), was a right-leaning local body electoral ticket in Wellington, New Zealand. It was formed in 1911, with the goal of electing "desirable" candidates to the Wellington City Council and represent the needs of businessmen, denying administration of the City of Wellington from the control of the left-leaning Labour Party candidates.[1]
History
The Citizens League held a majority on the Wellington City Council for its entire existence. It also held the mayoralty for all but a brief interval in 1912-13 when Labour's David McLaren served as Mayor of Wellington.[2]
